Welcome to another exciting season of Broadway quality musical theater at the historic Broad Brook Opera House. The shows we have planned range from serious to light hearted with one thing in common, beautiful music.
In September we have the wonderful off Broadway production of “bare”. A group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school face issues of sexuality and personal identity. To figure out who they are, they seek answers from their church, their friends, and ultimately, themselves. If you liked “RENT”, you will love “bare”. There is talk that “bare” will make its Broadway debut next year.
In November we will present Sweeney Todd. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's production tells the tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking revenge against the judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful owner of the pie shop downstairs soon has people lining up in droves for her mysterious new meat pie recipe. After a wonderful Broadway run, a very successful movie was made starring Johnny Depp.
In February it’s “The Wedding Singer”. Be prepared to laugh until it hurts. Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer until his fiancée leaves him at the altar. Heartbroken, he is forced to reexamine the meaning of love and marriage with the help of Julia, a waitress from one of his wedding-singing venues. This was a very successful movie made into an even better Broadway musical.
In May you’ll enjoy Ragtime. The lives of a family of upper-class WASPs, an African-American couple and some Eastern-European Jewish immigrants intersect as they try to make a success in America.
And in December Elvis is in the house with a wonderful Christmas Show. Ray of Elvis entertains. Ray is one of the best Elvis impersonators in the country. Don’t miss this great show. You won’t believe it! He’s got to be the real Elvis.
So enjoy this season of great shows and make the Opera House your choice for great musical theater for years to come. We appreciate your patronage.
